The NCLEX (National Council Licensure EXamination) is the test that all nursing graduates must take to become registered. Once we got back from Baker and Seattle from Christmas break I started studying. The exam is a computerized adaptive test meaning that the test questions get progressively more difficult when you answer correctly and easier if you answer incorrectly. The test shuts off when it has determined if you are competent (or not) in all of the different areas and that can be anywhere from 75-265 questions with a 6-hour time limit. And you can't go back to read previous questions or change your answers.
On Tuesday morning I went to the testing center. I had to prove my identity by bringing the form I received from registering and my drivers license. They took computerized fingerprints, palm prints from both hands, a photo, and emptied all of my pockets. I wasn't even allowed to have a hair band on my wrist!! They give you a dry erase marker and white board that won't erase. You can't stand up or move away from the testing cubicle without raising your hand to have a testing employee escort you out and take your palm print. Just a tad bit strict.
I have really pathetic testing stamina- by question 20 I was ready to be done. You can take a break at any time but I was holding out until I had answered 75. After submitting question 75 a blue screen appeared and I was done!!! No results. You leave the test and wait to find out the results from the state nursing board website several days later.

WOW! I love the security checking before the exam! Is that really necessary? I don't think I could have even faked to have known the answers, had I even been given the test:) I can't wait to hear the results! Way to make it to #75!! What did you do once you were done- go home and sleep??
