What do we do in Hawaii? What have we done? What do we want to do? How do you get there? How much does it cost? I'm trying to capture/remember as much as I can here. This page will get better with time.
  • Beaches:
    • *Lanikai/Kailua- (east) 3 mile stretch of sandy beach with sandy bottom 
    • *Waimanalo Bay Beach- (east) sandy beach, flat sandy bottom, lots of shade available
    • *Waimea- (north) can be great snorkeling or great wave jumping depending upon if the waves have come in - sandy beach, sandy bottom
    • *Ko'olina (west) - 4 man-made coves- sandy beach, sandy bottom, snorkeling outside cove, beautiful sunset
    • Goat Island (north)- wade through water to private island with sandy beach
    • Punaluu Beach (northeast)- sandy beach, partly rocky bottom, locals beach
  • Best Snorkeling Spots
    • *Haunauma bay- (southeast) sandy beach, busy, gets murky, free before 7AM and best time to snorkel OR free after 3PM and has night snorkeling if you buy/rent a head lamp
    • *Electric beach- (west) 200 yard swim to end on powerplant water line where thousands of tropical fish swim around you. (our favorite)
    • Shark's cove (north)- need reef shoes to enter shark's cove that will fit under fins
    • Three tables- (north)- sandy beach, shade, easy access
  • Hikes:
    • *Manoa falls- (honolulu)- 1+ mile beautiful hike, plan in morning or evening too avoid getting to hot
    • *Ho'omaluhia Park Botanical garden (east) - free- absolutely awesome- drive or hike through park, you can check out fishing poles for free on weekends and catch fish in the pond with bread
    • Diamond head- 1 mile, up hill (most popular hike on island)
  • Kayaking:
    • Sunken Island/Kaneohe Sandbar (east) - you can boat to and they set up chairs in the water and picnic
    • Mooks- (east)- two islands off east coast to kayak 
    • Kahana River (north)- kayak up river
  • Non-water Activities Honolulu:
    • Fireworks every Friday night on Waikiki beach
    • Luau at Hilton- nightly
    • Torchlighting ceremony nightly Waikiki
    • Punchbowl cemetery
    • Pearl Harbor
    • Chinatown
    • Swap Meet
    • Shopping at Ala Moana
  • Other Activities
    • Scuba diving- $$$
    • Luau/Polynesian Cultural Center (north shore)
    • Standup paddle board (rent for an hourly for $12)
    • Surfing 
    • Swim with sharks (they take you out in a boat and put you in a cage!)- $$
    • Dinner cruise- $$
    • Beach volleyball- free 
    • Boat trips - snorkeling, scuba diving, dolphin excursions, etc. -$$
    • Waimea valley falls- (north shore) $15 - hike to waterfall, botanical gardens 
  • Quick (30 minute) on-the-way stops: 
    • Macadamia nut farm- (mid-north shore) stop and try some local macadamia nut flavors for free
    • *Drive H-3 from east side to Honolulu- spectacular views
    • *Pali lookout
    • Halona Beach Blowhole (southeast)- stop on your drive to see blowhole
    • *Tantulus drive- (honolulu) -10 mile drive above honolulu with awesome views and crazy forest 
    • Dole plantation- (central oahu) walk around and see how pineapples grow (there's world's largest maze $6)

We loved Wiamea Valley. Walked up to the waterfall and went swimming there. It was gorgeous with flowers and birds aplenty.
