Trace received standby tickets from a friend (Thank you LaNelle!). We have never flown standby before and were unsure if we would make the flights. Our plans kept changing from flying to Oahu or flying to Kauai and spending a week there before going to Oahu. We were even considering flying to Alaska and then down to Hawaii. We honestly did not know what we were going to do until the night before when the flight status changed on AlaskaAir and showed a bunch of openings from San Jose to Kauai.
But we made it to Kauai without a hitch. We even got to sit next to each other on the plane! We went to farmer's market, drove to the Grand Canyon of Kauai, snorkeled, relaxed on the beach, explored the resorts, and met some locals who welcomed us into their campsite for the day. Everything was so green and every backdrop from the beach had the most stunning mountain or rock cliff.
Kauai is definitely more rainy and cloudy than Oahu- more like Portland. There really are a lot of chickens on the island and those tropical flowers are everywhere. Now that we explored most of the island reachable by car, when we go back we plan on spending the whole time exploring the Na Pali coastline that you can only see by foot, boat, or helicopter. The pictures below are not mine but they do the scenery more justice than my camera phone can.

I LOVE the pictures!! So when are you going have fun :) I'm starting to get a little tiny bit jealous!
Amazing! You guys totally deserve paradise. :) I'm glad you're there. And Kauai is awesome! James went once and he says its his favorite place in Hawaii. I hope to go someday too. :)
So what was that green circular thing made out of leaves. Is it a hat or a basket...?
The basket is made from Ti leaves. They have a whole new way of making arts and crafts here!
