It's no lie that the area down there is going to be sore after childbirth. Truth. But here are some awesome tips I picked up from the nursing staff that made me better by day 3 postpartum.
Every time you go to the restroom after delivery. Fill up the water bottle with warm water and give yourself a good cleanse. Pat dry. Then spray entire area with Dermoplast pain relieving spray. Put on a clean set of seamless knit pants, put a feminine pad down, then put down an perineum ice pack, on top of that put 2-3 tucks pads. Make sure to change this every 2-3 hours. At the hospital I would feed the baby on one side and then go change while Trace changed the baby's diaper. Then come back and feed her on the other side.
Believe you me, you don't want to be straining and adding any additional pressure down there. Of course take the Colace or whatever stool softener the doctor has ordered but I also took two Fiber Gummies throughout the pregnancy and after. This really helped the bowels start working just 24 hours after delivery and before I left the hospital.
How to make perineum ice pack (I actually never made one, Trace or the nursing staff made them for me, so make sure you show your husband before D-Day):
1) Find the end of the diaper with the closure tabs.
2) Open up the diaper like you would a bag of chips.
3) Using your fingers separate the padding from the liner on the inside lining of the diaper. The inside liner will go next to skin and padding will absorb the water from the melting ice keeping your bed or chair dry.
4) Fill diaper with ice.
5) Roll the top down twice.
6) Take tab and twist it to adhere to back side of diaper. Do this with both tabs.
7) You are finished. This is a great ice pack that lasts 2-3 hours and being that it's a diaper also absorbs all the melted ice. I only needed one ice pack when we came home. But I did change the ice pack every 3 hours for the first 36 hours after delivery while I was at the hospital.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for posting those helpful tips! I will hopefully remember them for right after baby #2.
