8/19/09: One of the best aspects of Glacier National Park is the public transportation. There are several parking lots where you can leave your car and jump on a shuttle. For our first day in the park, that's exactly what we did. Since neither of us were driving we both got to enjoy the beautiful view. We jumped off the shuttle to hike to Avalanche Lake. The first 1/4 mile is a beautiful nature trail called The Trails of Cedars, it's has a raised wooden wheelchair accessible platform. If you are ever driving through the park and want an easy 15 minute walk, this trail loops over a river and gives you great views of a variety of trees (1/2 mile).
The next 3 miles was normal hiking with tree cover and river the entire way.
The trail ended with these views. There are four waterfalls coming over that mountain from Sperry Glacier and Hidden Lake. Several people were fishing and catching cutthroat trout. The lake was clear enough to see the fish bite. We ate lunch and hiked off trail around lake. Beautiful!
On our hike back we ran a deer walking down the trail. When people would come he'd step off the path, wait for them to pass and get back on the trail. The epitomy of hiking etiquette. Waiting for the shuttle back to our car we found this hitchhiker on Trace's shoe!

So beautiful!! So how did you guys hear about this place to hike/visit? That sounds like so much fun. I need someone to live near there so that when we fly to visit then we can go there too:) Any takers??
Nice pictures! I love the waterfalls. Simply BEAUTIFUL!!! That's funny about the deer. I thought they would run off, but obviously this one was a "people-watcher." We missed you guys at Thanksgiving...hope you had fun!
Your pictures of the waterfalls look like something out of a magazine! Amazing!! We should definately put this place on a map of where to visit!!
