All roads north, east, and west closed for the evening. When we woke up the cars were completely covered with an inch of ice and the airport canceled all flights out of Portland for the following 3 days. Since their flights were canceled, the Hill family took their rental cars and drove south the next morning to either Reno or San Jose. The Baxter family was trapped. I-84 was closed so they couldn't get back to Baker City or Boise.
Trace and I spent an hour or more cleaning off the cars at the hotel and slowly drove back to the apartment in two separate cars. We made it 7 miles to the apartment complex only to get both cars stuck in the parking lot. One car was blocking the entrance/exit to the complex! So we put on warmer clothes, borrowed shovels from a neighbor (all shovels were sold out in the entire Portland metropolis), and dug our cars out enough to get them out of the way.
We just came inside from the day of digging snow when Trace's parents, Tricia and Erin, Tiffanie and Rachel, Todd, and Hary showed up to make us dinner and play some games. It sounds crazy to spend the day after you get married with your in-laws. True. Yet it was really fun. The food was awesome and we had the best group for my favorite game called "Curses." Three minutes after they left for the evening the power went out... Yup. It's a true story and I cut out a lot of it.
